Yale New Haven Health’s Heart and Vascular Center (HVC) brought education and awareness to the forefront during its first Mending Broken Hearts Symposium, held in February at Bridgeport Hospital. The event offered staff and patients an opportunity to learn about advanced approaches to diagnosing and treating heart disease, the leading cause of death in the United States.
Throughout the symposium, HVC experts led discussions on a range of topics including cardiac imaging, cardiac surgery, electrophysiology and structural heart and valve disease. Vendors who supply many of the devices and tools HVC physicians use were also on-site, providing demonstrations to hospital staff and explaining how their products support patient care.
“It’s so important to highlight the advances in cardiac care, specifically during Heart Month,” said Samuel Hahn, MD, Bridgeport Hospital section chief of Cardiology and associate professor of Internal Medicine, Yale School of Medicine. “Many of these cardiac diagnoses are complex, and whatever we can do to educate our colleagues and patients about treatments can only benefit everyone involved in cardiac care.”
