Yale New Haven Health recently established a Radiologic Technologist Residency Program, a unique, paid opportunity for board-certified radiologic technologists to receive advanced modality training and certification to further their careers.
The Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging will provide education and training for a six-month Computed Tomography (CT) program or a 12-month Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) program. Content is approved by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, with a certificate awarded upon completion. Tuition and certification costs are fully covered, including post-primary exam fees. To be eligible for the residency, applicants must be certified in radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists by the start date of either program.
Residents train three days a week in CT or MRI, receive guided didactic instruction one day a week and work one day a week in diagnostic imaging labs. They receive mentorship and support from senior technologists, modality leadership, the program director and coordinators.
“By creating an internal, structured career ladder, we’re offering our technologists long-term professional growth and success within the health system,” said Emily Amento Haverly, residency program manager. “This formalized residency will also strengthen recruitment and retention of skilled radiologic technologists. Essentially, this program is building the next generation of imaging professionals for our system.”
