As a powerful winter storm swept across Connecticut and Rhode Island Feb. 22 and 23, employees across Yale New Haven Health demonstrated extraordinary dedication, ensuring patients received safe, uninterrupted and compassionate care despite challenging conditions.
When the storm hit, employees didn’t hesitate. Some arrived on skis, others walked more than two miles through deep snow to get to work. Many brought blankets, hot coffee and big smiles – along with a commitment to support colleagues and patients.
“These efforts truly highlight the remarkable character of our people,” said Christopher O’Connor, YNHHS CEO. “I am deeply grateful for every individual who stepped up in extraordinary ways.”
EMS crews across the region worked on the front lines throughout the storm, navigating dangerous roads to ensure patients arrived safely at YNHHS hospitals. To show appreciation, teams from Bridgeport and Greenwich hospitals delivered warm meals to nearby EMS stations.
At all YNHHS hospitals, employees from every department went to exceptional lengths to maintain operations. Managers stepped in to help when staff members couldn’t arrive for their shifts, delivering meals to patients and performing many other functions.
YNHHS extends its deepest gratitude to every staff member, clinician, EMS professional and support team member who worked through the storm.
