Vanessa Maisonave, RN, assistant nurse manager of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), received the DAISY Award for her extraordinary leadership, clinical excellence and commitment to patient care.
Maisonave has strengthened the unit’s clinical practice, professional culture and overall quality of care, her nominators wrote. She developed comprehensive simulation programs and skill-building days that ensure every nurse is prepared to care for the most fragile infants. She has established clear standards and expectations to help build a culture rooted in safety, consistency and accountability, and has led several highly successful QI initiatives that have improved patient outcomes and unit processes. Her dedication to advancing clinical practice has resulted in abstracts being accepted for national presentation, bringing recognition to the NICU and the entire institution.
During a recent snowstorm, when premature twins delivered amid severe staffing challenges, Maisonave stayed at the hospital for two nights and personally cared for the critically ill infants. This act of dedication reflects her deep commitment to patients, families and her team, her nominators wrote.
