NEMG Community Outreach Committee (COC) members recently joined colleagues from throughout Yale New Haven Health to volunteer for the Storehouse Project community dining service at the Cornerstone Christian Center in Milford.
As Milford’s largest food distributor for families in need, the Storehouse Project offers a client-choice pantry three days a week and operates a mobile food pantry that brings groceries to community colleges and clients along the I-95 corridor between Bridgeport and Milford.
The Project also serves a free, three-course meal every Monday to about 70 guests. Dinner service volunteers are the wait staff, greeting guests, taking drink orders, serving the meal and clearing tables.
“The opportunity to serve the community in a restaurant-like setting, with dignity and respect, was very fulfilling and humbling. I was very impressed with how well the program is run and organized,” said Maria Alicea, preventive health coordinator.
