Yale New Haven Health System

Be prepared: At work and home

During National Preparedness Month in September, Yale New Haven Health’s Office of Emergency Preparedness staffed information tables at all delivery networks and some ambulatory sites.

They shared tips and tools to help people prepare for a wide variety of emergencies at work and home and provided giveaways, prizes and snacks. The tables are part of an annual effort to encourage staff to make plans now, rather than during an emergency.

Jordan Rose Swenson, system manager for the Office of Emergency Preparedness, noted that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) 2025 national preparedness theme is “Preparedness Starts at Home.”

“It is crucial to have important conversations at home before a disaster occurs, especially if you live with young children, elderly parents or family members with special needs,” Swenson said.

Visit the Emergency Management section of the YNHHS employee intranet for more information, including each delivery network’s emergency operations plan. For resources to help you plan at home, visit FEMA’s ready.gov website.
