Digital and Technology Solutions will soon launch a system that will improve 5G cellular coverage for patients and employees across the health system.

DTS is scheduled to enable a cellular Distributed Antenna System (DAS) at Greenwich and Westerly hospitals and the Bridgeport Hospital Milford Campus before Christmas. Bridgeport and Lawrence + Memorial hospitals and Yale New Haven Hospital’s Saint Raphael Campus are scheduled to go live at the end of January and YNHH’s York Street Campus at the end of March.

The DAS will significantly improve cellular coverage for AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile users, said Glynn Stanton, senior vice president and chief information and information security officer, YNHHS. It is designed to handle future mobile device upgrades to 6G and above.

“We recognize that cellular coverage is essential for our patients to stream and stay in touch with family, and this upgrade will improve our patient and visitor experience,” he said. “The new system will also improve our emergency readiness capability by ensuring that mobile connectivity is a robust alternative to the YNHHS wireless network.”

“We want anyone walking into our hospitals to have the best experience possible regardless of the carrier they use,” said Mark Boyer, DTS manager of network infrastructure. “Whether you are doing your job or visiting a loved one, our new system will provide the fastest speed and most reliable signal in more areas than ever before.”
