Northeast Medical Group (NEMG) practices from the East Region recently wrapped another successful “Socktober” drive, which, provides warm socks and winter weather items for residents of the New London Homeless Hospitality Center – a place of safety and welcome to adults facing homelessness in southeastern Connecticut.
This year’s drive yielded more than 150 pairs of socks, 32 pairs of underwear, six pairs of gloves, four blankets and several other much-needed items.
“Collecting socks is a simple, yet meaningful, way to support people experiencing homelessness,” said Cristin Gill, practice supervisor, East Region. “Clean, warm socks prevent infections, provide comfort and offer a sense of dignity to those facing difficult circumstances. Every item makes a difference.”
The Community Outreach Committee (COC) is instrumental in carrying out NEMG’s mission to help the communities we serve. For information or to join, contact Robert Mitchell, 203-384-5109. Watch for more information on committee initiatives.
