On Nov. 17, Yale New Haven Hospital honored its more than 1,500 care associates at a celebration with a fitting theme, “The Sky’s the Limit.”
The annual event recognizes the work of ambulatory care assistants, ambulatory care associates, clinical technicians, emergency department technical associates, emergency department technicians, medical assistants, mental health workers, milieu counselors, patient care associates, (PCAs), radiology care assistants, technical associates and urology technicians.
“Your caring is the heart and foundation of patient care,” said keynote speaker Joanna Cole, APRN, nurse practitioner at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven. But she and other speakers noted that care associates often go above and beyond what’s in their job descriptions.
“You are there for our patients and their families at every stage of life,” said Courtney Vose, RN, DNP, YNHH chief nursing officer. “Your impact reaches far beyond what you see every day.”
One example of this impact is the Circle of Care Award, which recognizes care associates’ dedication to patients, commitment to peers and service to the community. This year’s awardees were Tammy Maida, PCA, Pediatric ICU, and Jasinia Bradshaw, urology technician, Urology Clinic.
The ceremony also recognized those who have advanced on the clinical ladder and two care associates who received Frances Grindell Scholarships. The scholarships, for care associates pursuing nursing degrees, were presented to Lauren Joyner, an ambulatory care associate in the Breast Center at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Park Avenue Medical Center, Trumbull, and Danielle Welz, an ambulatory care associate at the YNHH Breast Clinic.
Congratulations and thank you to all YNHH care associates!
