Adam Helgeson, patient escort, earned a PEACE (Patient Experience Award for Caring and Excellence) for exceptional compassion, professionalism and dedication to patient care. Helgeson was assigned to transport a patient to CT Scan. The patient was in pain and upset about having the test. When the patient began having an anxiety attack. Helgeson went above and beyond to ensure her physical comfort and to provide emotional support. He acknowledged her courage and helped her manage her distress. The patient was so moved by Helgeson’s kindness and care she wrote him a heartfelt thank you card, expressing that he had done more for her than she ever expected.
Kathy Maturo, manager, Ambulatory Operations West, received the PEACE (Patient Experience Award for Caring and Excellence) for going above and beyond for a confused patient who couldn’t find her car after an outpatient visit. The patient stopped at a blood draw station, where staff contacted Maturo for assistance. After consulting with a provider to ensure the patient could drive safely, Maturo walked with the patient through multiple levels of the garage to locate the car. She also helped the patient navigate the parking ticket station and put the patient’s emergency contact person on speakerphone for the ride home. The patient’s family was grateful for Maturo’s compassion and commitment to their loved one’s safety.
