Great Catch winners announced

Great Catch Award

Bridgeport Hospital

Maghan Wilbur

Maghan Wilbur, a technician in the Emergency Department, won the Great Catch Award for helping save a patient’s life. Wilbur was registering a patient who complained of a fluttering in the chest. Wilbur’s internal smoke detector went off, and she got the patient an electrocardiogram (EKG), which showed a life-threatening arrythmia. Wilbur activated a medical alert, and the care team was able to intervene immediately, ultimately saving the patient’s life.

Jessica Pagan, RN, and Michael Waselik, OR

Jessica Pagan, RN, and Michael Waselik, OR associate, Perioperative Services, were recognized for exceptional attention to detail and effective handoff. A patient being discharged after nasal surgery experienced profuse bleeding, prompting Waselik to quickly return the patient to the PACU. In the PACU, Pagan assessed the patient and immediately activated the anesthesia and surgical teams. The patient was emergently intubated at the bedside and taken to the operating room. The patient received timely care and was discharged home later that day.
