Yale New Haven Hospital

Hospital is first in Connecticut to perform heart valve procedure

A team with YNHHS Heart and Vascular Center
A team with the YNHHS Heart and Vascular Center recently marked a milestone in treating severe tricuspid valve regurgitation at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Yale New Haven Health Heart and Vascular Center (HVC) physicians recently performed the first procedure in Connecticut using the EVOQUE tricuspid valve replacement system to treat severe tricuspid valve regurgitation.

EVOQUE is the first dedicated transcatheter system to treat patients with tricuspid valve regurgitation by replacing the valve entirely, using a minimally invasive approach.

Tricuspid valve regurgitation occurs when the valve, which regulates blood flow between the heart’s right atrium and right ventricle, does not close properly. Blood flows backward into the right atrium during ventricular contraction, which can increase pressure in the right side of the heart and reduce its efficiency in pumping blood to the lungs for oxygenation.

This milestone represents the latest advancement in structural heart interventions the HVC offers.
