YNHH nursing scholarship applications due in April

Employees may apply online for advanced practice nursing scholarships between April 1 and 30 by clicking the "Career" tab on Employee Self Service. The Marna P. Borgstrom and Peter N. Herbert, MD, Yale New Haven Hospital Advanced Nursing Education Scholarships provide tuition assistance of up to $10,000 annually to qualified employees working toward advanced nursing education to meet requirements for an APRN license. Nurses can find scholarship information on the YNHH nursing website or through HRConnnect. The scholarship hotline is 203-688-8222.

Applications for Yale engineering scholarships due in April

Between April 1 and 30, Yale New Haven Health System will accept applications for the Betty Ruth Hollander Engineering and Science Scholarships. Applications may be submitted by full- and part-time employees of Yale New Haven, Bridgeport, Greenwich, Lawrence + Memorial and Westerly hospitals and the Grimes Center whose children or grandchildren have been admitted as an undergraduate to Yale College to major in engineering or science. The student may also be a current undergraduate at Yale, majoring in engineering or science. The scholarship covers annual tuition at Yale for up to four years. Head, neck cancer screenings April 5, 7

Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center will hold free screenings for oral, head and neck cancer: 4:30 - 6:30 pm Wednesday, April 5, at YNHHS' Park Avenue Medical Center, Trumbull; and 2 - 6:30 pm Friday, April 7, East Pavilion Cafeteria special events area, York Street Campus. Two self-compassion workshops April 6

Two workshops on self-compassion will be held Thursday, April 6. "Self-Compassion for Caregiving Professionals," to be held 4 - 5 pm, is recommended for employees. "Self-Compassion: Practical Skills for Coping," to be held 5:30 - 7 pm, is recommended for patients, guests and the public. Presenter Tim Desmond will define self-compassion and offer evidence-based techniques to increase it in the lives of caregivers and their patients. Save the date: YNHHS Nurses Day at Bridgeport Bluefish

YNHH nurses, employees and their family members are invited to get an early start on Nurses Week by joining other nurses and employees from throughout Yale New Haven Health System at a Bridgeport Bluefish baseball game, 1 pm Sunday, April 30, at Bridgeport Bluefish Stadium, 500 Main St. YNHHS will have a special seating section in the stadium, and YNHHS nurses will receive free admission and a meal. Watch for more information on tickets, coming soon.
