Training begins for Epic “double upgrade”

On Oct. 20, Yale New Haven Health is scheduled to launch a twoversion upgrade of Epic that will make it easier to access and edit key information and perform a variety of functions. Training is now available at http://dept.ynhh.org/its/epicupgrade/. The site includes training materials organized by the user’s role and specialty, videos, tips and tricks and the Epic playground, with 2018 upgrade content users can explore.

The upgrade will include:

• More readable and useful after-visit summaries for patients
• The ability to sign orders to multiple pharmacies in a single window
• On-the-spot editing for Notes in SmartSets
• Easier-to-read medication reconciliation information

Language Celebration Day to feature talk on cultural competence and patient-centered care

The YNHH Diversity and Inclusion Council and Language Services department will mark Language Celebration Day Friday, Sept. 28, with information tables in the cafeteria entrances at both campuses and a talk by international healthcare consultant Cindy Roat on how language and cultural awareness are important to patient-centered care. The talk will be 9 am - noon, East Pavilion cafeteria special events area, York Street Campus, and 1 - 4 pm, Selina Lewis Multipurpose Room, Saint Raphael Campus.

Diversity and inclusion workshop Oct. 5

All are invited to “Artistic Expressions of Transgender Youth,” a free diversity and inclusion workshop with Tony Ferraiolo, transgender youth advocate/trainer and author. The event will be noon - 2 pm Friday, October 5, Baker Auditorium, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, New London. Lunch will be served. The first 50 people will receive a free copy of Ferraiolo’s new book and have it signed after the event. Employees may register on Employee Self Service. For more information, call 203-502-6553.

Bakers wanted for United Way Cupcake Wars

YNHH is looking for bakers to participate in the 6th Annual Cupcake Wars in November. The event helps raise funds for and awareness about United Way of Greater New Haven’s work in the community.

This year’s event will also benefit Icing Smiles, a nonprofit organization that provides custom cakes and other treats to families impacted by a child’s critical illness. Twenty baker slots are available for the competition and will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. To enter, email [email protected] by Oct. 19. Two competition winners will receive gift baskets. Save the date for Cupcake Wars, noon - 2 pm Thursday, Nov. 1, East Pavilion cafeteria special events area, YSC.

YNHH named top hospital for diversity

BlackDoctor.org recently listed YNHH among its 2018 Top Hospitals for Diversity. Hospitals on the list were recognized for delivering the highest-quality care while promoting equity and inclusion in operations, programs, services and staffing. BlackDoctor.org is a health resource for African-Americans.
