Celebrating over a half-century of service

Family, friends and colleagues gathered Sept. 10 to wish Sister Jean Ann Trainor a well-earned retirement after 54 years of service. Sister Jean Ann, a registered dietitian-nutritionist, is a member of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, who founded the former Hospital of Saint Raphael. She joined Saint Raphael’s as an inpatient dietitian after completing a one-year dietetic internship at the former Grace Hospital (now Yale New Haven Hospital). However, most of her career has involved working with outpatients, and colleagues calculate that she provided more than 50,000 outpatient nutrition consultations during her tenure. Additionally, Sister Jean Ann regularly shared information about nutrition and diet at community-based health fairs and lectures. At the reception, Sister Jean Ann said she was grateful for the opportunities to serve those in need and expand and share her knowledge. Looking around the room, she likened those she has worked with to a family, saying, “My years here have been about sharing and caring together.”
