YNHH to hold organ donation awareness events

YNHH is celebrating Donate Life Month with several events, including information tables at both campuses: 11 am - 2 pm Thursday, April 7, East Pavilion Cafeteria, York Street Campus; and 11 am - 1 pm Monday, April 11 and Tuesday, April 12, Saint Raphael Campus cafeteria. Other events include national Blue and Green Day Friday, April 15, when employees are encouraged to wear the Donate Life colors, and Nursing Grand Rounds, noon, Friday, April 15, 55 Park St. Auditorium.

Blood draw facility closed

The blood draw station at 317 Foxon Road, East Haven, closed March 25. Nearby blood draw services are available at 556 Main St., East Haven. Patients and physicians have been notified.

HealthStream new user experience begins this month

Yale New Haven Health System is launching HealthStream's new online training platform, which is simple to use, responsive and will allow employees and YNHHS-employed physicians and licensed independent practitioners to take online training on mobile devices. To access the new platform, click the "Switch to the New Student Experience" banner on your HealthStream "My Learning" page. The current platform will not be available after April 10.

Head and neck cancer screenings April 12, 15

Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center will hold free screenings for oral, head and neck cancer: 4:30 - 6:30 pm Tuesday, April 12, at the Smilow Cancer Care Center in the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. Transforming Healthcare Grand Rounds April 12

Employees are invited to Transforming Healthcare Grand Rounds, 5 - 6:30 pm Tuesday, April 12, Fitkin Auditorium. Richard C. Boothman, JD, adjunct assistant professor, University of Michigan, and executive director of clinical safety and chief risk officer, University of Michigan Health System, will give a talk, "The Michigan Model Misunderstood." Employees invited to donate in honor of Doctors' Day, Nurses Week

The Office of Development invites employees to donate to YNHH in honor of a physician or nurse who has made a difference in their lives, as a caregiver or colleague. National Doctors' Day was March 30, but donations are still welcome. National Nurses Week is May 6 - 12. To donate, visit www.givetoynhh.org, or call 203-688-9644.

National Healthcare Decisions Day April 15

YNHHS will observe National Healthcare Decisions Day Friday, April 15 (the day before the official national day) with information tables for employees, patients and visitors: 7 am - 4 pm, York Street Campus East Pavilion Cafeteria, and Saint Raphael Campus cafeteria. Representatives from Patient Relations, Legal and Risk Services, Social Work, Spiritual Care and other departments will discuss the benefits of making wishes known in advance. Handouts will include conversation starter kits, YNHHS advance directives brochures and legal forms. Staff will be available to answer questions and assist with completing advance directives. In addition, a new intranet site for YNHHS employees, inside.ynhh.org/Pages/National-Healthcare-Decisions-Day.aspx, will have copies of documents and links to other websites. The day aims to raise awareness, educate and empower healthcare providers and the community about advance care planning.

Employees invited to create a Bundle for a Bundle

YNHH's Mutual Respect Committee is collaborating with the Social Work department and Primary Care Centers (PCCs) to present the Bundle of Joy event, April 15 - May 13. Employees throughout the hospital are invited to team up with co-workers to create a "bundle" of baby items for families in need at the PCC. Each bundle should contain (new items only, please): one-piece sleepers (sizes 6 - 24 months), fitted crib sheets, baby toiletries, bibs and burp cloths, towels and wash cloths, baby wipes and layette sets. Items should be placed in a portable container such as a diaper bag or reusable shopping bag and dropped off at the York Street Campus, Human Resources, room CB101, or call 203-688-4625. On the Saint Raphael Campus, drop bundles at Volunteer Services, Main 138, or Nuclear Medicine, PG06/PG10, or call 203-789-3481. Bundles will be distributed to families through the PCC.

Blood drives April 18, 19

The American Red Cross will hold blood drives at the York Street Campus, 7 am - 5 pm Monday April 18, and 7 am - 12:30 pm Tuesday, April 19, East Pavilion Cafeteria special events area. The last 15 minutes of each hour will be open for walk-in donors. Nursing research conference April 21

Yale New Haven Health System nurses are invited to the Janet Parkosewich Nursing Research Conference, "The Pursuit of New Knowledge, Innovations and Improvements through Nursing Research," 7:30 am - 3 pm Thursday, April 21, Yale University West Campus. Joanne DeSanto Iennaco, APRN, PhD, Yale School of Nursing, is keynote speaker. Deborah Chyun, RN, PhD, New York University, will give the featured research methods lecture and Ann Kurth RN, PhD, dean, Yale University, will give the featured program of research lecture.
