HOME program celebrates 10 years

HOME program

Employees who have purchased homes through the HOME program celebrated the program's 10th anniversary at a reception recently. Many took the time to share reflections about becoming homeowners and expressed gratitude for the program.

Yale New Haven Hospital recently celebrated 10 years of helping employees become homeowners through its Home Ownership Made Easier (HOME) program.

Through a partnership with Key Bank, the HOME program offers first-time home buyers up to $10,000 in forgivable, five-year loans and other incentives when they purchase a home in New Haven. More than 145 employees have purchased homes through the program since it began at YNHH in 2006.

"We are very proud of the success of the HOME program," said Michael Dimenstein, vice president, Human Resources. "It is not only an employee benefit that enables our staff to realize their dream of home ownership, it's also a community benefit through which YNHH and staff can partner to improve our neighborhoods." Dimenstein added that he hopes the program continues to grow in the coming years.

"This program is wonderful," said Quenette Johnson, clinical bed manager, Patient Logistics, who bought a house through the program in 2015. "The process went smoothly and my family and I love our new home. I appreciate the HOME program and recommend it to employees looking to purchase a home."

In addition to financial incentives, the program offers homebuyer education on financing, house selection, property maintenance and rehabilitation.
