Behavioral Health Services

Greenwich Hospital Behavioral Health Clinic

Greenwich Hospital’s Outpatient Center Behavioral Health Clinic offers a comprehensive range of treatments available for adults and teens who are suffering from emotional distress and mental illness. Adolescents and young adults ages 14-21 can access health education, confidential counseling and support on issues that are important to them. Services include individual, marital and family therapy, counseling for those who have lost loved ones, and treatment for psychological trauma. Medication management, monitoring and evaluation are also available. They serve individuals with in-network insurance plans as well as those who do not have insurance and qualify for membership in the Outpatient Center. When calling for an appointment, a registrar will ask some preliminary questions, and a clinical social worker will follow-up to complete a phone screening.

Cancer and Genetics Prevention Program

The Cancer Genetics and Prevention Program at Smilow Cancer Hospital offers personalized assessments and guidance to help you and your family reduce cancer risk, detect cancer early, or navigate hereditary cancer concerns with clarity and support.

A team of genetic counselors, clinical coordinators, physicians, and nurse practitioners work together to assess your personal and family history, determine your risk for hereditary cancers, and guide you through genetic testing if appropriate. You’ll receive tailored recommendations for screening, prevention, or treatment, along with support for understanding how genetic factors may impact your relatives. The program also supports research and community education to raise awareness about hereditary cancer risk.

Smilow Cancer Hospital Support Groups

A diagnosis of cancer can be stressful to patients and their families. Smilow Cancer Hospital has licensed clinical social workers available to help patients manage their feelings and concerns throughout their cancer care. Our social workers also facilitate many support groups that provide the opportunity to receive emotional and educational support and to talk with others who are undergoing similar treatment, or who have successfully completed treatment. These support groups are open to patients of Smilow Cancer Hospital and their families.

Childbirth and Parenting Services

Free Car Seat Check and Installation

Yale New Haven Health offers free car seat installation and checks to ensure seats are installed correctly and children are as safe as possible during travel.

Certified child passenger safety technicians will walk you through how to correctly install your child’s car seat and ensure it's properly secured in your vehicle. You'll also learn how to safely buckle your child in according to their age, weight, and height. This personalized, hands-on appointment helps you feel confident every time you hit the road.

Appointments are available at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital in New Haven, Bridgeport Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, and Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. This service is free.

Complete Lactation Care

We are here to support you on your breastfeeding journey. We recognize that every family’s journey is different and unique. We are committed to helping you meet your personal goals, while creating a rewarding and positive experience for both you and your baby. Our team provides support and resources to individuals who want to breastfeed/chestfeed that includes education before and after the baby is born. We also support gestational carriers, induced lactation and the LGBTQ community.

Maternal Wellness Program

The Maternal Wellness Program at Yale New Haven Hospital offers expert support to help individuals manage perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), such as postpartum depression or anxiety. If you're feeling stressed, disconnected, or emotionally unwell before or after giving birth, this program can help you find relief and regain balance. Licensed clinical social workers provide individualized support through therapy and education during pregnancy and up to one year postpartum. Services include mental health assessments, screenings, psychoeducation, individual or couples counseling, and referrals when needed. The program focuses on helping you process your emotions, strengthen relationships, and cope with challenges such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, fatigue, or difficulty bonding with your baby. Sessions are available in person at Yale New Haven Hospital locations in New Haven. Telehealth appointments are also offered for added flexibility. Most insurance plans are accepted.

Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome Program

If you're pregnant and managing opioid use disorder, Yale New Haven Health’s NOWS Program offers compassionate, supportive care to help you and your baby have the healthiest start possible.

Participants receive counseling and education through one-hour sessions, available by telehealth or in person, based on your preference. These sessions focus on what to expect during delivery, how to care for a newborn with Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome, and how to navigate postpartum recovery. Your care partner is encouraged to join, supporting a team approach to family wellness and infant care.

The program is available through Yale New Haven Hospital and can be accessed virtually or at one of their care locations, depending on your needs and comfort.

YNHH Parenting Support Home Visiting Program

The YNHH Parenting Support Home Visiting Program provides trusted, no-cost support to help you navigate the parenting journey with confidence.

The program offers free services including parenting education, in-home visits, support groups, and phone consultations. Bilingual staff is available to assist non-English-speaking families. The program provides personalized guidance, links to local resources, and ongoing encouragement—helping you build strong, healthy relationships with your children. Services are available to all parents and caregivers, and no medical referral is required.

This benefit is available through Yale New Haven Hospital, Department of Social Work Parenting Program (formerly Nurturing Families), serving families throughout the New Haven area.

WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program

The New Haven WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program provides personalized support and education to women enrolled at New Haven WIC sites. The program provides a comprehensive model of home, community and hospital-based breastfeeding promotion and support. Counseling can be done in-person at the WIC offices, via video, or in-home. Text support is also available. A board-certified lactation consultant is available to help with complex issues. Peer counselors are women from the community who have successfully breastfed, and are able to provide education and support to others who are interested in breastfeeding. Peer counseling support is provided in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole. Certified interpretation is available for additional languages. Enrollment and referral to the program can be done prenatally to begin education and relationship building with the peer counselor ahead of the baby's birth.

Cardiac Rehabilitation

The Heart and Vascular Center offers an outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at six locations through Yale New Haven Health to help patients transition to an active life following a cardiovascular event. Each of our cardiac rehabilitation locations is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

Hypertension Program

The Hypertension Program at Yale New Haven Health is designed for patients with complex high blood pressure (hypertension) conditions. Complex conditions include high blood pressure brought on by a separate medical condition (secondary hypertension) and other blood pressure disorders, including resistant hypertension and labile hypertension.

Peripheral Artery Disease Rehabilitation

Greenwich Hospital's Center for Healthy Living offers Peripheral Artery Disease Rehabilitation, a safe, effective way to reduce pain and improve your walking ability and overall cardiovascular health. With regular, supervised sessions, many patients regain strength, mobility, and confidence in daily activities.

This 12-week program begins with a full assessment of your walking ability and fitness level. You’ll then participate in supervised exercise sessions tailored to your condition, alongside education and counseling. The goal is to increase walking duration and reduce discomfort through gradual, guided progress. The program also supports long-term heart and vascular health.

PAD Rehabilitation is offered through the Richard R. Pivirotto Center for Healthy Living at Greenwich Hospital. Treatment is covered by Medicare and most private insurance plans. A referral from your physician is typically required.

The Heart and Vascular Center’s Preventive Cardiovascular Health Program is aimed at preventing heart disease and stroke in people at risk of these conditions. It emphasizes individual risk evaluation and a partnership with patients. This program includes a sports cardiology component designed for adults and high school students involved with sports and physical fitness activities.

Nutrition and Weight Management Services

Center for Behavioral and Nutritional Health at Greenwich Hospital

Greenwich Hospital’s Center for Behavioral and Nutritional Health provides behavioral health services to help patients manage stress, improve self-care, and better understand the connection between mental and physical health.

The program provides individual psychotherapy, psychiatric evaluations, and medication management for a range of concerns, including emotional eating, body image issues, stress-related disorders, trauma after medical events, and chronic illness-related psychological challenges. Services begin with a personalized consultation to assess patients' needs and develop a treatment plan, typically involving 1 to 12 sessions. Licensed clinicians work closely with referring providers to ensure coordinated care, and referrals to specialty services are available if needed.

Behavioral health services are provided through the Center for Behavioral and Nutritional Health at Greenwich Hospital’s Outpatient Clinic. Most health insurance plans, including Medicare, cover behavioral health services. Patients are responsible for co-pays and deductibles.

YNHH Center for Nutrition and Wellness

At Yale New Haven Hospital, our registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) from the Center for Nutrition and Wellness offer comprehensive nutrition assessments and a variety of counseling services for children, adults and seniors. RDNs provide information to help you make smart choices about healthy eating, weight management and specialized clinical diets. Individual wellness programs and customized eating plans are based on personal needs, food preferences and lifestyle. Our RDNs offer personalized care and will collaborate with your referring physician to keep him/her up-to-date on your progress.

Pet Therapy

The calming effect of pets can be a welcome distraction from your medical care. Trained volunteers can bring a canine friend by your room for a visit. These loveable, huggable dogs are screened and evaluated to ensure they are safe to be around patients, visitors and staff. Many are certified by the Delta Society Pet Partners®, which trains dogs to behave appropriately in hospital settings.

Spiritual Care

Spiritual Care staff work closely with other members of the healthcare team, offering spiritual care and support while you or your loved one are in the hospital. Our chaplains can help people of different faiths and cultures cope with the stress of illness, injury and being in the hospital.

Outpatient Specialty Pharmacy

Specialty Pharmacy Services at Yale New Haven Health provide patients with access to specialty medications used to treat conditions that can be complicated to manage and may require coordination of care. Our specialty pharmacy staff and clinical pharmacists have specialized training and years of experience. We work closely with care providers to create the safest, most effective treatment program and our staff is available for questions and concerns 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.

Long COVID Program

Yale New Haven Hospital offers unique care for residents of Connecticut and are experiencing severe and lingering symptoms 90 days after recovering from COVID-19. This condition is sometimes called long-haul COVID or long COVID. Patients who are referred by their primary care doctor or specialist to our Long COVID Program are evaluated by a team including an internist, a physical therapist, a social worker, and when appropriate a respiratory therapist to determine a tailored care plan. Appointments are coordinated with specialists who work together to address the medical conditions that may require many different areas of medical expertise.

Greenwich Hospital Physical Medicine

Greenwich Hospital Outpatient Rehabilitation at Long Ridge Medical Center provides comprehensive rehabilitation services. The facility offers physical and occupational therapy, as well as concussion management. The center provides a range of treatments and therapies including vestibular therapy, pediatrics rehabilitation, pre- and post-surgical care, orthopedic and sports injury treatment, tendon and ligament repair, total joint replacement rehabilitation, and pelvic floor rehabilitation. The staff includes certified hand therapists and LSVT certified therapists for Parkinson's treatment.

Patient care at Greenwich Hospital Outpatient Rehabilitation begins with an initial assessment and treatment planning.
