YNHH and Project Access to host food pantry March 30

YNHH and Project Access New Haven will host the Connecticut Food Bank’s Pop-Up Pantry to distribute food to local residents in need. The event is 11 am - noon Saturday, March 30, at Long Wharf Medical Center, 150 Sargent Drive, New Haven. Parking is free. Food-ordering app for cafeterias coming soon

Food and Nutrition will soon launch the Nourish smartphone app, which will allow employees and visitors to pre-order food from the YNHH cafeterias and pick it up when it’s ready. There is no extra charge to use Nourish, and employees can choose a pickup time. Safety Coach Summit to showcase new program

YNHH safety coaches from all disciplines and units are invited to the 2019 Safety Coach Summit, 10 am - noon Tuesday, May 7, Harkness Auditorium. The summit will focus on progress with the Safety Coach program, which launched in 2015. Register by April 30 on the Infor Learning Management System. Type “Safety Coach” into the search bar and click “Safety Coach Summit.” For more information, contact Karen DeSantis, [email protected]. Safety coaches are employees who have been trained to observe work behaviors and provide feedback on use of the HRO CHAMP behaviors. Based on comments in a recent survey of safety coaches, the program has been revamped for 2019 with a particular focus on training. Details on the changes will be provided at the summit, which will also include presentations by Steven Choi, MD, YNHHS chief quality officer, and Stephen Jones, MD, medical director of Safety, YNHHS. The event will also include networking with peers, safety coach “success stories” and new, interactive tools.

Applications for Yale engineering scholarships due soon

Between April 1 and 30, Yale New Haven Health System will accept applications for the Betty Ruth Hollander Engineering and Science Scholarships. The scholarships are open to children and grandchildren of health system employees, including full- and part-time employees of Bridgeport, Greenwich, Lawrence + Memorial, Westerly, Yale New Haven hospitals and the Grimes Center. Children or grandchildren who have been admitted as undergraduates to Yale College to major in engineering or science may apply; applicants may also be current engineering or science undergraduates at Yale. The scholarship covers annual tuition for up to four years. Weight-management program starts in April

YNHH’s Center for Nutrition and Wellness is offering “Live Well and Lose It,” a weight-management program for employees and their adult dependents that’s covered under the Yale New Haven Health System benefits plan with no copay or deductible. This six-session program will meet every other week for 30 minutes and offers confidential weigh-ins and goal-setting assistance. Topics include meal planning, best food choices, portions, dining out, dealing with cravings and staying motivated. Saint Raphael Campus schedule: Mondays, April 8 - June 17, (every other week), 12:15 pm. York Street Campus schedule: Thursdays, April 11 - June 20 (every other week), 7:30 am and 12:15 pm. Blood drive April 10

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive at the< York Street Campus, 7 am - 4:45 pm Wednesday, April 10, East Pavilion Cafeteria special events area. The last 15 minutes of each hour will be kept open for walk-in donors. To make an appointment, visit www.redcrossblood.org and use YALENHHOSP as the sponsor code.

Healthy eating workshop April 11

Employees and the public are invited to a free Smilow Wellness Workshop, “Discover Delicious Healthy Eating,” 5:30 - 7 pm Thursday, April 11, 55 Park St. auditorium. Chef and author Dawn Ludwig will explore how quality foods (whole, slow carbs and healthy fats) can impact your metabolism, immune system, energy and cravings – while being delicious and satisfying. Casting call: Employees wanted for diversity and inclusion classes

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion invites employees to participate in three classes from the educational catalog that will be recorded for employees unable to receive diversity education in the classroom. Each course provides key takeaways to help participants make better connections with patients and colleagues. All employees are encouraged to participate and be a part of this exciting work. All classes are 1 - 3 pm at the Institute for Excellence, 300 George St., Room 156. Space is limited; sign up and bring your energy to one, two or all three classes:
