Getting Ready for Your Visit to Yale New Haven Health

Whether it’s your first visit or a routine follow-up, we’re here to help you prepare for your upcoming in-person appointment. Below, you’ll find important tips and guidelines to ensure your visit goes smoothly.

What to Expect During an In-Person Appointment

In-person visits are for care provided at one of our clinics or facilities. This may include:

  • Consultations with primary care providers, specialists, pediatricians, or physical therapists
  • Services like lab work or blood tests
  • Imaging appointments, such as X-rays, CT scans, or MRIs
  • If you’re unsure whether your appointment is in person or virtual, please contact your care team for clarification.

How to Prepare Before Your Visit

When to Contact Us Before Your Appointment

Please reach out to your care team if you are experiencing:

  • Fever, flu-like symptoms, vomiting, diarrhea, or a new skin rash (especially with fever)
  • A recent COVID-19 diagnosis or exposure within 10 days of your appointment

Your care team will work with you to determine the best course of action, including rescheduling if necessary.

Stay Up to Date with Appointment Reminders

We’ll send you reminders to help you prepare for your visit. You may receive notifications via phone, text, or through our patient portal, MyChart, before your appointment.
