Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean when you say we are transitioning to paperless statements?

For Yale New Haven Health, Northeast Medical Group, and Yale Medicine MyChart users who are the guarantor* of an account(s), the default means of receiving your bill will be set to paperless on January 3, 2023.  This means patients will receive a notification when billing statements are available in MyChart and statements will no longer be mailed.  If you prefer paper statements, you can easily login to MyChart after January 3 and choose to receive paper statements.

*A guarantor is the person or entity responsible for paying the balance of an account.

How will I know when I have a new balance or statement

All patients, even those who choose to receive paper statements, can receive email and/or text notifications when they have a new account balance and/or when they have a new statement. Balance update notifications are sent as soon as a new or changed patient balance is available in MyChart. Statements and statement notifications are only generated once per month for Yale New Haven Health and Northeast Medical Group statements, and once per month for Yale Medicine statements. If you pay your balance in full before the statement is generated, no statement will be created.

MyChart users can update communication preferences by accessing your account and navigating to Preferences & Account Settings.

How can I see billing details, statements, and previous payment information in MyChart?

After you log into your MyChart account, any Outstanding Balance will be displayed on your home screen. You can access all billing information by clicking the menu icon and navigating to Billing Summary.

Do I need to opt out of paperless billing again, even though I’ve previously requested to receive paper statements?

If you were previously enrolled in paperless billing and then requested to be switched back to paper bills, you will continue to receive paper statements after Jan. 3.

What happens if I don’t realize that I have a statement ready in MyChart and I miss the due date?

If you are receiving statement notifications, you will receive a text and/or email notification each month to remind you of an outstanding balance. You can update your communication preferences in MyChart at any time.

Why am I not being notified that my statement is ready?

Your billing notifications might not be turned on. Log into your MyChart account and review your communications preferences and contact information.

Yes. Log into your MyChart account, navigate to Billing Summary and scroll down to the bottom of the page. Click the cancel paperless billing link and confirm your choice.

I have both hospital and physician bills. Will both be transitioned to paperless statements/billing?

Yes, for those who are the guarantor of a MyChart account, Yale New Haven Health, Yale Medicine, and Northeast Medical Group bills will now be paperless. Some community practices that share MyChart with us will continue to send paper billing statements.

Why am I still getting a paper bill for my visiting nurses and home hospice services?

Patients will continue to receive paper statements for balances due to Home Care Plus and VNA of Southeastern Connecticut while we work to ensure electronic bill paying for these services are available for all.

I need help to opt out of paperless billing. Is there someone I can call for assistance?

Yes, Yale New Haven Health billing representatives can help you. Please call 855-547-4584 for assistance.

My children and /or parents have accounts, but I am responsible for their bills. Will they receive statements, or will they come to me?

If you have proxy access in MyChart, you will receive their statements. View more information on how to request proxy access.

Why do the text and email notifications not include more information, like the service I am being billing for?

To protect your confidential information and comply with privacy laws, we do not display any health-related information including date of service, type of service, or physician name, until a patient logs into their MyChart account.

What if I don’t have a MyChart account?

If you do not have an active MyChart account, you will continue to receive paper statements. If you would like to sign up, visit MyChart and then choose “Sign up now.”
