Health Innovation

The Center for Health Care Innovation is holding a pitch competition at our HealthTech Forum on November 5, 2019. We are looking internally and externally for the best ideas and technologies with the potential of bringing the greatest value to the patients and communities that we serve.

Staff, clinicians, researchers, faculty and student teams of Yale New Haven Health or Yale University are invited to submit proposals that have the potential to reshape the healthcare experience through medical devices, drug delivery, diagnostics and digital health technology. Project(s) selected during the Pitch-Off may be awarded cash funding.

Proposals should include:

  • A description of the unmet clinical need;
  • Details of the proposed solution/scope of work related to development of the novel solution for the identified problem; and
  • Estimates on the number of impacted individuals and financial savings should the effort be successful.

Eligibility

This challenge is open to existing startups of all stages. Submissions can range from early stage concepts to on-market solutions developed by seasoned entrepreneurs or industry innovators. Eligible fields include medical devices, drug delivery, diagnostics and digital health technology. (Pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceutics or fundamental biology are not eligible.)

Pitch-Off & Award

Selected proposals and teams will be invited to share their healthcare innovation at a Pitch-Off Event before a panel of judges on Tuesday, November 5th. Pitches and teams who are deemed best in class may be awarded funding up to $5,000 to advance their project.

Award Selection

Applications will be screened for completeness and basic eligibility requirements before review by an independent group. Final decisions on applicants who will be moving forward will be made by third party reviewers and will be communicated to applicants in advance of the pitch competition on November 5th. Jurors will select the top ventures for cash awards at the event on the merit of the live pitches.

The intellectual property practices or guidelines of each respective institution will apply to employed awardees.
