PEACE recognition announced

These employees received PEACE (Patient Experience Award for Caring and Excellence) recognition for going above and beyond to meet patients’ and families’ needs.

MICU and Food and Nutrition staff were honored as a team for actions of caring and compassion on behalf of a patient with a terminal diagnosis. The patient’s family asked if their daughter, who was engaged, could be married at the bedside. MICU staff worked closely with Food and Nutrition to craft a wedding ceremony with flowers, cake and music so the patient and her family could celebrate the milestone event before she passed away.

Peter Cammarano, Patient Transport, was honored for going above and beyond for a young patient brought to the SRC Emergency Department after being injured while playing basketball in a local park. After the patient said he lost his basketball in the incident, Cammarano, a retired New Haven teacher, went out and purchased a new basketball and arranged to have it delivered to the patient in his room.
