Due to renovations, the Occupational Medicine and Wellness Services clinic at 175 Sherman Ave. will be temporarily closed for the next several weeks. Services for employees at both campuses will be provided at the Occupational Health office at 20 York St., East Pavilion, first floor. The office is open 8 am - 4 pm; 203-688-2462. Saint Raphael Campus employees may take the intercampus shuttle or park in the Air Rights Garage and bring their parking tickets to Occupational Health for validation. SRC employees requiring a PPD or PPD read may go to 175 Sherman Ave., 1st floor, to the right of the elevators. Employees may also use the Bridgeport Occupational Medicine and Wellness Services clinic: 226 Mill Hill Ave., lower level.
Nurses are invited to learn more about Nursing Shared Governance at various activities to be held Monday, Aug. 20 – Friday, Aug. 24. Events include drawings, education and Shared Governance fairs, 6 am - 3 pm Wednesday, Aug. 22, YSC and SRC cafeteria entrances.
The Dependent Tuition Loan Program allows eligible Yale New Haven Hospital, Health Services Corp. and Bridgeport Hospital employees to borrow money to cover college tuition for their dependent children. To qualify, employees must have completed the equivalent of at least five continuous years of full-time service (or a combination of full- and part-time continuous service), and the dependent child must be under age 25 and enrolled as a full-time, undergraduate student. The hospital pays interest on the loan while the student attends school. Loan repayment begins once the child graduates or at the end of the loan term. Employees may borrow up to $2,500 per academic year, per child, with a total maximum of $10,000 (over four years). Please note, employees who have already received a $2,500 loan for this program in January 2018 are not eligible for another loan until January 2019. YNHH’s Mutual Respect Committee (MRC) has launched the Hygiene Products Drive to help community members experiencing homelessness. More than 3,000 people in Connecticut are without a home every night, and many do not have access to personal hygiene products. From now through Sept. 12, employees can help homeless adults and teens by donating personal hygiene and toiletry items such as soap, lotion, deodorant, toothpaste, shaving accessories and sealed packages of feminine hygiene products. The committee also seeks donations of new/gently used bras (all sizes appreciated) and socks. Please place items in donation bins on the York Street Campus, near the Atrium Gift Shop entrance or in the New Haven Cafeteria (Dana Building), or the Saint Raphael Campus All Spice Café. Donations will be distributed to adults and teens at area homeless shelters and to the Connecticut chapter of I Support the Girls (ISTG), a national non-profit that collects and distributes feminine products to women in need. A Positive Difference is the giving program designed to make it easy for employees to include YNHH in their annual charitable giving. Employees may choose from 11 patient-centered funds to support; give $2 or more per paycheck through automatic payroll deduction; and change the amount or fund they’re giving to any time through Employee Self Service. A mailing explaining A Positive Difference has been sent to employees’ homes. Those who enroll by Friday, Sept. 30 will be eligible for a drawing for one of five iPads. YNHH offers a 20-week education and training program for employees and others interested in becoming a pharmacy technician. Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, technicians refill medication dispensing machines, manage emergency medications, prepare sterile and non-sterile compounds and perform other duties. Day classes will be held in September; evening sessions in November. Admission requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and adequate performance on a mathematics exam. YNHH is a sponsor of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America Southern Connecticut 5K run and walk to raise funds for and awareness of sickle cell disease. YNHH is a sponsor of the Alzheimer’s Association’s New Haven Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Sunday, Sept. 30 at New Haven’s Lighthouse Point Park. Registration is at 8:30 am for the 10 am walk. Corporate Contracting, in collaboration with the YNHHS Environmental Committee, has selected Stericycle, Inc. to provide standardized medical waste transportation and disposal services for the health system. Services will cover regulated medical waste, hazardous waste, sharps, pharmaceuticals and controlled-substance waste. Stericycle will also work with YNHHS to lower costs and improve quality, efficiency and service. As part of ongoing efforts to standardize processes, the committee reviewed medical waste policies and procedures to implement best practices across all campuses. All delivery networks will now follow a standardized process, developed by the Environmental Committee and members of Accreditation, Safety and Regulatory Affairs, Environmental Services, Infection Prevention, Nursing, Pharmacy, the Institute for Excellence and locations that use these services.
