Blood drive June 28

Employees invited to volunteer for PAL camp

YNHH will sponsor two days of the New Haven Police Activity League’s Summer Camp, 8 am - 3:30 pm Thursdays, July 12 and 19, Wilbur Cross High School. Employees are invited to volunteer for a full day or from 8 am - noon or noon - 3:30 pm on one or both days. Nearly 300 youngsters ages 8 to 13 will learn about the hospital and health at the events, themed “Safety Saves Lives.” The YNHH days will feature information on fire, pedestrian and social media safety, drug and alcohol prevention and nutrition. Activities will include basketball, kickball and demos from YNHH diagnostic radiology, PACU/OR, casting, physical and occupational therapy. Older children will explore career paths, learn basic interviewing and resumewriting skills and hear from a panel including YNHH senior leaders. Visit pal.ynhh.org/ to sign up. Tuition forgiveness applications accepted starting July 17

Employees pursuing specific healthcare degrees or certifications are invited to apply for the hospital’s Tuition Forgiveness program between July 17 and Aug. 7. The hospital pays accredited educational programs up to $4,200 for full-time hospital employees and $3,000 for part-time employees enrolled in one of these programs:

  • RN to BSN or RN to MSN program (to acquire a BSN)
  • Accelerated BS in nursing
  • Last two years of a BS in nursing, radiology or respiratory therapy
  • Associate’s degree in radiology (diagnostic imaging, ultrasound,
  • nuclear medicine, radiation therapy) or respiratory therapy
  • MRI or CT certificate program
  • Pharmacy training certification program (accredited by American
  • Society of Health System Pharmacists)

Bridgeport, Milford hospitals explore integration

Citing goals to sustain access to high-quality care and enhanced operational efficiency, the Milford Hospital and Yale New Haven Health boards of trustees voted recently to explore the integration of Milford Hospital with Bridgeport Hospital. Under the agreement, which requires state and federal regulatory as well as full board approvals, Milford Hospital would be acquired by Bridgeport Hospital. Current Milford Hospital employees would become employees of Bridgeport Hospital, which has agreed to recognize all existing labor relationships. Prepare for severe weather

The Office of Emergency Preparedness and YNHHS delivery network emergency managers remind staff to prepare for severe weather, particularly during hurricane season, June 1 - Nov. 30. Be sure you have emergency kits at home and in your car with items such as non-perishable food, bottled water, batteries and medications, along with pet supplies. Have a communications plan for your family in case you are separated during a disaster, and a plan to ensure your family is taken care of in case the disaster strikes while you are at work.
