YNHHS announces 2024 compensation and benefits plan

Yale New Haven Health has announced details of the 2024 compensation and benefits program.

“We know that our employees are the key to our success,” said Melissa B. Turner, senior vice president and chief human resources officer, YNHHS. “The 2024 compensation and benefits plan is designed to reward, engage and retain employees and attract new talent to our organization.”

The comprehensive and competitive package includes some changes, along with a few enhancements and expansions of current offerings.

“While the health system has had to implement a modest increase in medical plan premiums in response to escalating healthcare costs throughout the country, we are pleased to provide performance-based pay increases as well as the Performance Incentive Plan to eligible employees this year, despite the health system’s financial challenges,” Turner said. “We are also very excited to announce the expansion of the Student Loan Repayment Assistance Program to include additional clinical staff in 2024. It has been an extremely popular benefit and we are happy to offer it to more employees next year.”

Below are highlights of the compensation program and benefits offerings for 2024.

Compensation program highlights

Performance-based merit increases of up to 4.5 percent, based on employee performance and pay zone. Lump-sum payments will be available for employees near or at their maximum pay level.

  • Performance Incentive Plan (PIP): Eligible employees may earn up to 3 percent of their earnings if maximum plan goals have been met. The PIP payout in December 2023 will be based on FY23 performance on PIP goals. Results will vary by delivery network and will be announced later this fall.

YNHHS Medical Plan changes

  • Due to rising healthcare costs, medical plan contributions will increase in 2024. Depending on salary band and coverage level, increases will range from $1.50 to $8 per paycheck. YNHHS will continue to bear the majority of medical premium costs for employees on the YNHHS Medical Plan.
  • The Medical Premium Waiver Program continues for employees who earn below certain thresholds and have fully completed Know Your Numbers Plus.
  • Copays for certain doctor’s offices visits and telehealth appointments will increase by $10. Lab/diagnostic tests performed by a Cigna provider will be a flat $35 copay, rather than deductible and coinsurance.

Other Benefits Changes

  • YNHHS will expand the Student Loan Repayment Assistance Program introduced last year. In 2024, in addition to those currently eligible, the program will be available to care associates, social workers and rehabilitation (physical, occupational and speech) therapists.
  • Several changes enhance the voluntary benefits offerings, including a new group accident insurance option.0
  • New: YNHHS has launched a one-stop shop for benefits information. Visit BenefitsConnect at ynhhs-benefits.org to access information about 2024 benefits, including the YNHHS Medical Plan, family support offerings and flexible spending accounts (FSAs) – all in one place. The site also includes information about enhancements to dental plan coverage, nutritional counseling and voluntary benefits, plus benefits supporting professional development and tuition reimbursement.

All of the employee compensation and benefits detailed in this article are applicable except where expressly superseded by a collective bargaining agreement.

Open enrollment begins Oct. 30

The open enrollment period for 2024 benefits runs Oct. 30 - Nov. 10, 2023 at 5 pm. It is important to review your current benefits to ensure they continue to meet your needs for the coming year. During open enrollment, eligible employees should elect benefits, enroll in flexible spending accounts and confirm dependents and beneficiaries. Enroll in benefits on the new BenefitsConnect site at ynhhs-benefits.org.

Eligible employees enrolled in a YNHHS Medical Plan who do not enroll during open enrollment will default to their 2023 coverage for next year. Those who chose not to participate in the YNHHS Medical Plan and other benefits by waiving coverage will default to waived coverage next year. To participate in a flexible spending account, you must enroll each year; your current contributions will not carry over to 2024.
