Darius Carlton, a patient relations representative who covers the Emergency Department, recently earned PEACE (Patient Experience Award for Caring and Excellence) recognition. During his rounds, Carlton stopped to check on a patient who complained of blurry vision and a bad headache. He alerted staff, who noticed stroke symptoms and activated a stroke code. The diagnosis was confirmed, and the patient received immediate treatment.
Carlton’s “constant attention to detail and commitment to making every patient’s experience a positive one are true examples of his compassion and empathy,” Johanna Gonzalez, manager of Patient Relations and Guest Services, wrote in her nomination. “It takes a very special person to be so attuned and aware of his surroundings and the patients who are awaiting care.”
