Alliance paves the way for Milford facility to remain a vital part of the community

New signage welcomes visitors to the Milford Campus of Bridgeport Hospital.

The historic agreement forged last summer that brought Milford Hospital under the Yale New Haven Health banner ensures that the facility continues its community-focused mission as a healthcare presence as the Milford Campus of Bridgeport Hospital.

"Milford Hospital has played a critical role in the delivery of health care in our region for nearly a century and we are pleased to welcome this exceptional hospital to Bridgeport Hospital and Yale New Haven Health,” said Yale New Haven Health CEO Marna P. Borgstrom. “We are excited to bring new clinical services, updated infrastructure and stability to this important organization that will allow us to grow access to high-quality health care locally and regionally.”

Yale New Haven Health is making significant investments in the Milford Campus of Bridgeport Hospital’s infrastructure including capital improvements like new equipment and expansion of clinical service lines like the addition of the Heart and Vascular Center, orthopedics and critical care services. The Milford Campus will become a state-of-the-art community facility and center for gerontologic health, staffed with clinicians who have specific training in geriatrics to care for an aging population. All of these changes will provide Milford-area residents with high-quality care, tailored to their community’s unique needs.

“It’s been a busy and exciting time on the Milford Campus,” said Pamela Scagliarini, COO, Bridgeport Hospital. “Yale New Haven Health and Bridgeport Hospital made a promise to not only preserve, but also expand access to acute care services in Milford. Since June, we have focused on stabilizing operations on the Milford Campus, while also investing in important facility and technological improvements which have enhanced the way we care for patients.”

Richard D’Aquila, president, Yale New Haven Health, Mark Toney, president and CEO of the former Milford Hospital and Michael Ivy, MD, former interim president, Bridgeport Hospital sign the acquisition agreement as Gina Calder, administrator, Milford Campus of Bridgeport Hospital and Marna Borgstrom, CEO, Yale New Haven Health look on.

Efforts to integrate the Milford Campus into Bridgeport Hospital have been in full swing since the agreement was inked. Gina Calder, administrator, Milford Campus, hailed the progress and expressed her excitement at the changes on the horizon.

“There are moments when I am in awe of what has been accomplished and the momentum we have sustained,” Calder said. “We must recognize and celebrate those accomplishments every day. We must also remain aware of the critical items that remain in motion. We will continue to be busy and we will continue to evolve.”

Calder noted that one such evolving area is the Emergency Department. Since becoming part of Bridgeport Hospital and the Yale New Haven Health System, the Milford Campus ED has seen a record number of patients come through its doors. She believes this utilization underscores the community’s support of the integration.

The experiences of the last several months have prepared the Milford Campus of Bridgeport Hospital to meet the ever-changing needs of the community. Those experiences, coupled with the facility’s deep Milford roots and support from Yale New Haven Health, make it a prime destination for world-class care in the area.“

In the months ahead we will strengthen our capacity to serve the community by offering increased access to physician specialists, expanding ambulatory services and leveraging the signature of care and expertise that Yale New Haven Health is known for right here in Milford,” Scagliarini said.
