Dr. Omur received her medical degree from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, one of Turkey’s premier medical schools. Following graduation, she completed her mandatory rural service, practicing as both a family physician and emergency medicine physician, which provided a strong foundation in the care of medically complex and acutely ill patients. She completed her psychiatry residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, and subsequently pursued fellowship training in Psychosomatic Medicine and Psycho-Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center / Weill Cornell Medicine–New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where she developed specialized expertise in the psychiatric management of medically complex and oncology populations. From 2016 to 2019, Dr. Omur served as a full-time Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry attending at Westchester Medical Center, a tertiary academic medical center affiliated with New York Medical College. In this role, she provided inpatient psychiatric consultation across multiple services and was actively involved in the education and supervision of medical students and psychiatry residents. In 2019, she established a private practice with a focus on trauma-informed care and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), while continuing her academic clinical work as a per diem Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry attending for several Northwell Health hospitals.Dr. Omur later returned to full in-person academic hospital practice at Greenwich Hospital, where she served as an Emergency Department and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry attending, providing psychiatric care for medically ill and critically ill patients. Her clinical interest in interventional psychiatry, particularly electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), developed through her care of medically complex patients with catatonia, for whom access to ECT was often limited due to significant medical comorbidities and systemic barriers to acceptance at ECT-providing institutions. These experiences highlighted gaps in access to timely, life-saving treatment and motivated her to pursue advanced training in interventional psychiatry. In late 2024, Dr. Omur completed training at Yale University under Drs. Ostroff, Katz, and Nikayin in Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) and Ketamine/Esketamine therapies. She subsequently assumed leadership of Interventional Psychiatry Services (IPS) and, in July 2025, was appointed Associate Medical Director. In her current role, Dr. Omur provides and oversees ECT and Ketamine-based treatments for patients with severe and treatment-resistant psychiatric conditions. She is committed to clinical excellence, education, program development, and interdisciplinary collaboration, and values her work alongside the Interventional Psychiatry faculty at Yale in advancing equitable access to evidence-based interventional treatments.
