Christi Kim, MD, is a general medical oncologist with a special interest in gynecologic cancer and lymphoma. She is passionate about providing the best evidence-based therapy options and personalizing them for each patient.
Dr. Kim says her motivations to become a medical oncologist were both professional and personal. “I came to the field with relative naivety about taking care of women with gynecologic cancer,” she says. “I was inspired by several gynecologic oncologists who I worked closely with during my early career, and how they went above and beyond for women whose lives were struck by cancer.” Then, during her fellowship year, she lost her father to small cell lung cancer. “My father’s medical oncologist, nurses, palliative, and supportive care teams made the end-of-life care more bearable,” she says. “I wanted to give back the support that my family received. No one goes through this alone.”
True success in cancer care results from patient-centered approaches that draw upon the latest evidence-based treatments from a place of multidisciplinary team-building and treatment planning, Dr. Kim says. “This is not new, but thanks to many impactful clinical trials, we are able to offer many more effective treatment options to our patients and help them live longer lives with better quality of life,” she says. “My job is to make patients feel safe and care for them,” Dr. Kim says. “It matters how our patients feel day to day. It matters how we help them to accomplish what means the most to them.”
In addition to seeing patients, Dr. Kim is an assistant professor of clinical medicine at Yale School of Medicine. She has been involved in several gynecologic cancer clinical trials. She is currently interested in platinum-resistance ovarian cancer and TP53 mutated cancer, which she says is one of the highest unmet needs. She encourages patients to enroll in clinical trials.
Dr. Kim is an elected fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP).
