The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) recently recognized three units at Yale New Haven Health hospitals with silver-level Beacon Awards for Excellence.
Lawrence + Memorial Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) became the first NICU in Connecticut to earn this recognition. Bridgeport Hospital’s Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Medical-Coronary Intensive Care Unit (MICU) were also honored.
The award recognizes top hospital units that meet standards of excellence in recruitment and retention; education, training and mentoring; research and evidence-based practice; patient outcomes; leadership and organizational ethics; and creation of a healthy work environment. Silver-level recipients demonstrate continual learning and effective systems to achieve optimal patient care.
“Our NICU nurses consistently demonstrate excellence in every interaction. This achievement is a testament to their dedication and the profound impact they have on patient outcomes,” said Shannon Christian, RN, chief nursing officer, L+M and Westerly hospitals.
“We are incredibly proud of our PCU and MICU teams,” said Anne Aquila, RN, DNP, director of Wounds and Critical Care at Bridgeport Hospital. “This recognition honors the high-quality care and unwavering dedication they demonstrate every day in providing compassionate, evidence-based care to our patients.”
At Yale New Haven Health, both campuses of Bridgeport Hospital and Yale New Haven Hospital have earned Beacon Award recognition on various inpatient units.
