Michele Romell, RN, Labor and Delivery, earned the Patient Experience Award for Caring and Excellence (PEACE) after noticing a woman in the hospital hallway who seemed to need help. Romell learned the woman was trying to find her way home after a test, so she walked with the woman toward Greenwich Avenue, talking and offering reassurance. During their walk, the woman said she hadn’t had a photograph taken of herself in more than 30 years. She asked Romell to take a picture with her, saying she had prayed for an angel to help her, and Romell had been that angel. Later that day, Romell called to make sure the woman had arrived home safely. That simple follow-up meant so much, and the woman again expressed her gratitude.
