Mother’s Day event helps raise more than $42,000

More than 600 people participated in the Mother’s Day event
More than 600 people participated in the Mother’s Day event to raise money that supports patients and programs at the Bridgeport Hospital Milford Campus.

More than 600 runners, walkers and riders from Milford and surrounding communities helped make it a Mother’s Day to remember by participating in the Bridgeport Hospital Milford Campus Mother’s Day 5K Run/Walk, 3K Fitness Walk and Kid’s Fun Run presented by Dillon’s Services of Shelton.

It was the second largest number of participants in the race’s 30-year history.

“We’re proud to see the Milford community come together year after year in support of our hospital,” said Anne Diamond, DBA, JD, hospital president. “Proceeds from the Mother’s Day 5K directly benefit the patients and programs at our Milford Campus and reflect our ongoing commitment to partnering with the community to deliver excellent, patient-centered care right where it’s needed most.”

Diamond joined the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation and Milford Mayor Richard Smith to welcome participants and supporters.

“An incredible event filled with energy and purpose,” Smith said. “One man running in memory of his late mother; one running to celebrate a significant weight loss; a mother and daughter team running to combat cancer. The reasons today were many, but in the end, it was about giving back to our community, helping people and making the world just a little bit better by being part of today’s event.”

The more than $42,000 raised was in part due to sponsor support from Dillon's Services, Unitex Textile Services, Milford Vascular Institute, Oncology & Hematology of CT, Berchem Moses, Woodbridge Running, Sodexo, Coca Cola, Star 99.9 and many community in-kind sponsors who provided food and beverages for all participants.
