Rachel Leibson, RN, lactation consultant, Women’s Care Center, won the Great Catch Award after a routine bedside feeding evaluation turned into a defining moment of patient safety. Leibson was observing the newborn and noticed subtle but concerning respiratory signs, including shallow breathing, nasal flaring and retractions. She reported her concerns to nursing staff to ensure the baby received immediate evaluation. A chest X-ray revealed a collapsed lung, and the baby was transferred to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit for specialized care, preventing potential complications.
