Pharmacy Services

Your First Order

Your provider will send your prescription to Specialty Pharmacy Services electronically, by fax or by phone, and we will enroll you in our specialty pharmacy program. You always have the choice of which pharmacy you would like to use; if you would like to change pharmacies at any time, let us know and we can transfer your prescription. Our specialty clinical pharmacists will educate you on how to take your medication, how to manage potential side effects, and coach you through any health-care barriers you may encounter.

Insurance and Financial Assistance

We will work closely with your insurance company to request coverage for your medication in a process called "prior authorization." We can answer your billing questions, check your coverage and help streamline the payment process.

Even with insurance, the co-pay amount for specialty medications can still be costly. We have specialized staff who will assist in finding alternate sources of funding for your medications, including manufacturer programs, foundation support, grants and co-payment cards (applicability will vary by insurance).

Medication Delivery

Once your prescription is approved, we will call you to set up delivery. Your medications will be mailed or shipped to you at no cost via a local courier or FedEx. We deliver your order to your home or to any other location you choose and include all the supplies you need, including needles, syringes and alcohol swabs.

If you prefer to pick up your medications in person, they can be obtained from either of our locations: Specialty Pharmacy Services at 1100 Sherman Avenue in Hamden or the Apothecary and Wellness Center at Yale New Haven Hospital at 1450 Chapel Street in New Haven.

Refills and Reminders

About one week before your next refill, a specialty pharmacy liaison will contact you to schedule your next delivery. You may also call us at 1-844-881-0043 any time to request a refill. When calling for a refill, you can also speak with a pharmacist to review your medications and ask questions.

Medications Not Available at Specialty Pharmacy Services

Some specialty medications are restricted to certain specialty or mail order pharmacies. If we do not have your specialty medication at Specialty Pharmacy Services our staff will find an alternative pharmacy that does carry the medication. Our specialty pharmacy clinical pharmacists will transfer your prescription to another pharmacy for them to complete your order.
