Yale New Haven Children's Hospital announces $1 million gift for newborn special care

3/272012 — Yale New Haven Children's Hospital has received $1 million to enhance its Newborn Special Care Unit (NBSCU). The anonymous gift was given by the family of a former patient in honor of their daughter who was successfully treated in the YNHCH New Born Special Care Unit, and in honor of the nurses who cared for her.

The NBSCU provides inpatient intensive care, consultative support and neonatal transport services for critically ill newborn infants in Connecticut and beyond. Yale New Haven opened this special unit — the world's first — in 1960. Today, the 56-bed unit is the largest unit in Yale New Haven Children's Hospital and admits nearly 1,000 premature and critically ill newborns each year. It is a level III-C unit — offering the highest level of newborn intensive care.

This philanthropic investment will enable YNHCH to enhance facility needs, add state-of-the-art equipment and technology, improve services, and continue to provide the most advanced and family centered medical care available.
