Thursday, November 7, 2013

Fairfield , CT – Over 100 members of the Southport Athletic Club donated more than $600 to Bridgeport Hospital’s Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center (NPBCC) in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The funds will be used for the NPBCC’s services to women in need. The Breast Care Center has been helping women in the community fight breast cancer for over a decade. Patients come from Fairfield, Bridgeport and the surrounding communities.

“We are so grateful to the members of the Southport Athletic Club,” says Dr. Donna Twist, executive director of the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center. “Their generosity will help women recieve the services they need for early detection and treatment of breast cancer.”

The Southport Athletic Club holds various charity events throughout the year. One of its long-term members was treated at the breast care center. Donors were invited to pin a ribbon on the club’s “Wall of Pink” with a dedication to a loved one.

“Our members have been very generous,” says Kimberly Fox, group fitness manager, who helped organize the effort.“Everyone has been affected by breast cancer, whether through friends or family,” says Lisa Waite, Manager of Marketing and Support Services at the Southport Athletic Club.

“Many of our members are survivors. Members were very receptive to the fundraiser.”
