Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing holds 130th commencement

Wednesday, May 18, 2016

Bridgeport, CT –The Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing (BHSN) held its 130th commencement May 2 at the University of Bridgeport’s Arnold Bernhard Center for the Arts and Humanities. A total of 88 students from Connecticut and Westchester County, NY – 54 in the traditional two-year class and 34 in the accelerated 16-month class – marked completion of their studies and are eligible to take the Connecticut licensure exam for registered nurses.

More than 20 students received awards and scholarships, including class speaker Christina Gizzi of Waterbury, who had the highest grade point average in the two-year group.

“You will have your struggles, you will question your ability but you will rise,” Christina said to her fellow graduates. “As nurses, we measure success in the eyes of our patients. Know you are making a difference.”

The commencement speaker was Cheryl Green, a former BHSN faculty member, now a nursing leader at Yale-New Haven Hospital and nursing professor at Sacred Heart University and the University of Bridgeport.

BHSN signed an agreement with the University of Bridgeport in 2015 to transition its current RN diploma program to a bachelor of science in nursing program to meet expected higher standards for hospital nurses.
