Won Jae Huh, MD, PhD, is a pathologist who specializes in diagnosing and evaluating conditions involving the gastrointestinal tract and liver. He works closely with patients to understand changes in tissue structure and identify signs of disease, including inflammation or abnormal growths.
As an assistant professor of pathology at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Huh conducts research on cellular changes in pre-cancerous stomach lesions and mucosal injuries. His work explores how cells in the stomach can transform in response to injury or disease, aiming to uncover pathways that could lead to new treatments.
Additionally, Dr. Huh investigates the role of testosterone in regulating epidermal growth factor receptor protein levels in the liver, which may contribute to differences between men and women in liver diseases such as fatty liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma.
“My career goal is to better understand signal pathways that regulate tissue regeneration and early tumorigenesis with the intention of discovering new therapeutics that can facilitate regeneration and prevent tumor formation,” he says.
Dr. Huh received his medical training from Seoul National University College of Medicine in South Korea and pursued residency in anatomic pathology at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed a fellowship in gastrointestinal and liver pathology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
