Leslie Moroz, MD, is a maternal-fetal medicine specialist and has expertise in caring for pregnant women with hypertension, diabetes, autoimmune and infectious diseases, as well as conditions that place them at risk for requiring a higher level of care, including congenital heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, and a history of organ transplant.
Dr. Moroz says she grew up knowing she wanted to be a doctor. “I would shadow my parents’ friends who were physicians in the office or the operating room and thought it was fascinating,” says Dr. Moroz, who practices at Greenwich Hospital and teaches residents and fellows in the training program at Yale New Haven Health. “I liked the idea of a career where I could help patients every day while advancing science through research and teaching.”
She grew interested in maternal-fetal medicine during medical school. “I love how this specialty combines medicine with procedures, and I especially enjoy thinking about the physiology of pregnancy and how it offers a unique opportunity to treat at least two patients at the same time,” she says.
Following her fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine, Dr. Moroz completed a fellowship in critical care and spent time working in cardiothoracic and surgical intensive care units. She also completed a master's degree in biostatistics to further her understanding of clinical research. Her research interests are focused on critical illness in obstetrics, including disparities in care and regional differences in pregnancy outcomes. She is the co-editor of a textbook, Critical Care Obstetrics, and collaborates on research projects with a national group of experts on obstetric critical care.
A mother of three, Dr. Moroz says the best part of her job is making connections with her patients. “I like to meet people where they are and help them see a path to a happy, healthy newborn and family, especially when they face challenges along the way,” she says. “I enjoy helping people navigate through the difficult times and seeing the outcome when they are holding a baby in their arms.”
