Kanan Desai, MD, MPH, is a board-eligible internal medicine physician who is passionate about preventive care, building lasting relationships with her patients, and providing thoughtful, evidence-based care. She believes in getting to know each patient as an individual and working together to develop personalized, practical approaches to maintaining and improving their health.
Dr. Desai earned her medical degree at Government Medical College in Surat, India, and her Master of Public Health (MPH) degree at Hebrew University Hadassah Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine in Jerusalem, Israel, where she earned Magna Cum Laude honors. Dr. Desai completed her internal medicine preliminary residency at Mount Sinai-affiliated NYC Health+ Hospitals in Elmhurst, New York, and subsequently completed her categorical internal medicine residency at Norwalk Hospital, now part of Northwell Health, in affiliation with Yale University School of Medicine and the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.
Her clinical interests include preventive medicine, health maintenance, chronic disease management, and women’s health. Before transitioning to clinical practice, Dr. Desai was a staff scientist conducting research at the National Cancer Institute, NIH, and focused on cervical cancer prevention, HPV screening and genotyping, and innovative approaches to cancer screening, including artificial intelligence.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Desai enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, traveling, reading, meditation, and exploring new places. She is board-eligible by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and speaks English, Gujarati, and Hindi.
