Justin Lopes, APRN, provides holistic care for neurosurgical patients who are treated for neurovascular problems such as brain aneurysms, arterial venous malformations, carotid disease, strokes, normal pressure hydrocephalus, and subarachnoid hemorrhages—all of which can pose serious threats to the brain. He cares for patients mostly in clinic before and after surgery, and provides continued follow-up visits afterwards.

“I like this work because patients often have a lot to learn about their condition, and I have an opportunity to help educate them,” says Lopes. “We use research data to guide our practice and explain all the facts. It gives them a better understanding of things as they go through their treatment.”

Lopes has contributed to multiple research studies at Yale School of Medicine, helping with investigations into a variety of topics and treatments that affect neurovascular conditions such as aneurysms. He often works with clinical trial participants, providing patient assessments and testing, and other support. “Our goal is to enroll as many patients in these studies as we can, because the more we learn, the better care we can offer them,” he says.
