Biography - David Wolfsohn, MD

David M. Wolfsohn, MD, is an associate professor of medicine at Yale School of Medicine. He is the Director of Innovation for the Division of Digestive Diseases, as well as an international medicine leader. His clinical interests include luminal gastrointestinal disorders, Barrett's esophagus, colorectal cancer prevention, and gastrointestinal health and wellness.

Dr. Wolfsohn provides compassionate care and values the lasting relationships he develops with patients and their families. He is particularly drawn to gastroenterology because it combines intellectual rigor, technical expertise, and meaningful personal connections.

Dr. Wolfsohn joined the Yale faculty after spending 27 years in private practice at Connecticut Gastroenterology Consultants, where he served on its executive committee for more than two decades. He also served as director of the Yale-Temple Endoscopy Center for more than 10 years and has held numerous leadership roles, including governor of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and member of the ACG National Patient Care Committee. He is a fellow of both the ACG and the American Gastroenterological Association.

A passionate educator, Dr. Wolfsohn received Yale School of Medicine's Vincent DeLuca Teaching Award in both 2015 and 2021. He is a fellow of Jonathan Edwards College at Yale University and acts as an advisor for the Palade Society at Yale School of Medicine. He is deeply committed to mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows, and has devoted many years to teaching gastroenterology and endoscopic skills in Rwanda.

Dr. Wolfsohn serves on the board of directors and scientific advisory board of pHlip, Inc., a biotechnology company developing novel approaches to diagnose and treat inflammatory and neoplastic diseases. His research interests include neuroinflammatory conditions associated with the microbiome, and he collaborates with the Yale neuroimmunology and transketolase deficiency research groups on clinical studies.

Dr. Wolfsohn graduated magna cum laude from Brown University and was elected to the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honor Society. He earned his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, completed his residency in internal medicine at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, and completed fellowship training in gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy at the University of California, San Diego. He is consistently recognized as a top doctor by Castle Connolly and Connecticut Magazine.

Dr. Wolfsohn enjoys skiing, mountaineering, hiking, paddleboarding, playing guitar, and traveling with his family.
