Yale New Haven Health System

Advanced tech gives hospitals proactive, protective edge

Weapons Detection System
The installation of the weapons detection system included onsite training for Safety and Security officers at Bridgeport and Greenwich hospitals prior to launch in March. Officers learned how to move people through the screening process as quickly as possible.

Yale New Haven Health, in its commitment to providing a safe, secure environment for patients, visitors and employees, recently installed AI-enabled weapons detection systems at both Bridgeport Hospital campuses and at Greenwich Hospital as part of a systemwide rollout. The systems are at the main entrances and emergency departments.

When visitors and patients arrive, Safety and Security officers direct them along with their belongings through the detectors for screening. If they detect suspicious items, officers conduct a secondary screening. People in possession of firearms or other weapons must remove the items from hospital property before they can visit.

Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and Pequot Health Center will see the systems installed later this spring; Yale New Haven Hospital is slated for late summer.
