Yale New Haven Health’s Heart and Vascular Center at L+M Hospital recently completed its 50th cardiac ablation procedure after starting the new program last fall.

The program’s success means patients with irregular heartbeats (arrythmias) are being treated locally and, in most cases, going home the same day after a procedure in the cardiac catheterization laboratory.

Ralph DeBiasi, MD, an electrophysiologist and assistant professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at Yale School of Medicine, has performed ablations for many years in New Haven; he now performs them at L+M as well. Dr. DeBiasi also routinely performs pacemaker and defibrillator implant procedures at L+M.

“I’m proud of our entire team for working together to bring ablation therapy to L+M,” he said. “From the capital investment made by Yale New Haven Health to the training of our nurses and technologists and the support from our anesthesiologists, it has been a real team effort. It’s good for our hospital and it’s good for the community.”
