Smilow Cancer Hospital in Waterford recently thanked the team at Holmgren Subaru in North Franklin, CT, for its annual donation of keepsake blankets given to patients undergoing cancer treatments. The annual delivery has become a longstanding tradition.
“Our patients simply love the blankets,” said Cathy McCarthy, a licensed social worker at Smilow Waterford. “They’re not only warm and comfy when someone is going through treatments, they’re a reminder that others are thinking about you and wishing you well.”
Also, for Smilow caregivers, “The empathy and compassion of the Holmgren team lifts our spirits,” McCarthy said. “The team comes down here every year, and they remind us that the community truly supports and appreciates the care we provide.”
The donations are made in partnership with Blood Cancer United, another organization that partners with Subaru. A similar donation was made recently to the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Westerly from Valenti Subaru of Westerly in partnership with Blood Cancer United.
