Yale New Haven Hospital opens Rehabilitation and Wellness Center at Milford Hospital

NEW HAVEN, CT (July 1, 2015) – Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) opened a Rehabilitation and Wellness Center at Milford Hospital with a ribbon-cutting celebration on June 23.
This unique program offers intensive one-on-one daily therapy with individualized therapy designed for patients to improve faster and spend less time in the hospital, returning back to daily activities sooner.

“This center is one of few of its type with board-certified physiatrists on staff and a physician specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation to restore function after illness or injury,” said Richard D’Aquila, president, Yale New Haven Hospital. “Our physiatrists personally coordinate patient care with a team of expert physicians, nurses, therapists and counselors who are focused on your needs of our patients.”

The rehabilitation and wellness medical team is equipped and staffed to treat patients who have experienced an array of conditions requiring specialized and intensive rehabilitation including stroke, neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, Guillain-Barré syndrome and Parkinson’s disease, amputation of a lower extremity, hip fracture, major multiple trauma, spinal cord and brain injuries and various forms of arthritis.

The Rehabilitation and Wellness Center is designed for soothing, holistic healing to treat and bring comfort to the body, mind and spirit. The 24-bed unit is staffed by Yale New Haven Hospital physicians and rehabilitation nurses. Specially designed rooms have larger beds and higher weight capacity to accommodate the needs of all patients. Language translation services are free to caregivers and visitors.

“The Rehabilitation and Wellness Center will help our patients and their caregivers better respond to the needs of each patient’s rehabilitation plan,” said D’Aquila. “We will also train family members or caregiver to assist the patient when returning home as well as arrange for medical equipment or home-care services if needed.”
The Wellness and Rehabilitation Center officially open July 1.
