NEW HAVEN, Conn. (September 9, 2026) – Yale New Haven Health (YNHHS) today announced that Daniel del Portal, MD, MBA, has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer. In this role, Dr. del Portal will lead systemwide efforts to advance quality, safety, patient experience, clinical growth and operational performance across Yale New Haven Health.

Dr. del Portal joins Yale New Haven Health from Temple University Health System, where he serves as Senior Vice President of Medical Operations and System Chief Clinical Officer. Over the course of his career as an emergency medicine physician and healthcare executive, Dr. del Portal has led initiatives focused on clinical quality, patient safety, medical staff engagement, operational performance and service line growth. At Temple, he helped drive improvements in quality and financial performance, led the development and evolution of the health system's Capacity Management Center, expanded clinical services including the creation of a systemwide Addiction Medicine service line and advanced operational efficiency across a large academic health system. He also served as president of the Professional Medical Staff at Temple University Hospital.
At Yale New Haven Health, Dr. del Portal will focus on further advancing clinical quality, patient safety, high reliability and both patient and physician experience. He will have operational oversight of several platform services, including pharmacy, laboratory, rehabilitative therapies and diagnostic imaging, as well as case management, Y-Access and Y-Access transport. As part of the executive leadership team, he will also be engaged in the development and implementation of the clinical enterprise strategic plan focusing on strategic growth in existing and new service areas. His first day with the system is October 5, 2026.

Dr. del Portal earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and his MBA from Temple University's Fox School of Business. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and serves as an adjunct professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. He has been recognized by Becker's Healthcare among its Chief Medical Officers to Know and by Philadelphia Magazine as a Top Doctor.
