9/15/2011 — Working Mother magazine has chosen Yale New Haven Hospital as one of the "2011 Working Mother 100 Best Companies" in the nation. YNHH is the only hospital in New England and one of only five Connecticut companies to be honored by Working Mother this year.
"We’re very proud that Working Mother magazine has again recognized Yale New Haven Hospital as one of the nation’s best places to work," said Paul Patton, vice president, employee relations, Yale New Haven Hospital. "At Yale New Haven, we place a very high value on recognizing and supporting the needs of not only our working parents, but all of our employees. We are committed to providing the kinds of benefits and family-friendly policies that support a positive working environment."
Working Mother magazine selects its 100 Best Companies based on an extensive application which measures seven areas of a company: workforce profile, benefits, women’s issues and advancement, child care, flexible work, parental leave and company culture.
Working Mother selected Yale New Haven for the creative ways it helps employees meet the challenges of balancing work and family and the growing selection of programs in place to help employees meet work-life demands. In many departments, YNHH offers flexible work arrangements to mothers and fathers interested in returning to the workforce, as well as telecommuting, part-time and casual status, compressed workweeks and job sharing.
Yale New Haven earned special recognition in several key areas. Working Mother was particularly impressed that senior management created an employee hardship fund to help those who meet with an emergency situation which causes sudden financial difficulties. They also noted YNHH’s program of providing eligible employees with free tax preparation as well as financial wellness and money management seminars. Expanded wellness programs include free nutrition counseling, health screenings and an on-site fitness center, currently under construction.
In addition, they pointed out YNHH’s provision of on-site lactation rooms for employees who are new mothers as well as the hospital day-care center’s discount to families with multiple children enrolled.
YNHH employees also benefit from the hospital’s traffic demand management efforts, which include discounted bus and train tickets, bicycle racks and showers for cyclers, free shuttle rides to work and subsidies on bus and train fares.
This marks the eighth time that Working Mother magazine has selected YNHH as one of the Best 100 Companies, having previously honored the hospital in 2000, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010.
