The Beth Davis Rose of Hope Tennis Tournament at Brooklawn Country Club

Wednesday, November 4, 2015

FAIRFIELD--The September 16 Beth Davis Rose of Hope Tennis Tournament netted over $9,000 for the Norma Pfriem Breast Center’s community outreach programs.  Over 60 women took part in the Tournament at Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield.  Players came from Westport, Fairfield, Easton, Trumbull, Wilton, Stratford and Weston.

People’s United Bank was the lead corporate sponsor of the event.  The bank, founded in 1842, is a premier, community-based, regional bank in the Northeast offering commercial and retail banking, as well as wealth management services through a network of over 400 retail locations in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

The keynote speaker at the luncheon following the tournament, Laura Yarish, was diagnosed with breast cancer at 38 and treated at the Norma Pfriem Breast Center.  “I had no idea of what was ahead of me,” she said.  “But I knew one thing for sure, that I was going to fight with everything I had and inspire other women, so they can do it too.”

Yarish received free support services at the Breast Center, thanks to their financial assistance program.  She told the audience, “It is thanks to the Center and your generous donations today and all the donations along the way that women like me receive services which have been so necessary to heal my soul.”

The event was co-chaired by Donna Craft, NPBC Advisory Board, and Nancy Bento, NPBC President’s Council.  Flight winners were Maureen Ferguson and Denise Sousa; Kristy Wackerman and Bridgett di Bonaventura; and Donna Craft and Janet Maroun.
